Lyric Theatre’s 2012 season is about to kick off with an information day which is to be held at its Eagger Centre in Watsons Road Leongatha. It will commence at 1pm on Sunday November 6th with auditions to be held the following week.
The play is ‘Habeas Corpus’, an absurd/farcical comedy by Alan Bennett and will be directed by Jack Millar.

Alan Bennett is very well known as a playwright with such beauties as:
Talking Heads
Kafka’s Dick
The madness of George III
History Boys
The last two being made into very successful movies.
Habeas Corpus’ is a classic play of Bennett, although Bennett’s definition of a classic as “a book everyone is assumed to have read and often think they have” may have people unsure as to whether they have seen ‘Habeas Corpus’ or not!
Despite its title, Habeas Corpus is not a Legal thriller - far from it! It is a laugh a minute comedy with a cast of 6 men and 5 women with each character having its own individual challenge for the actors. All ages and shapes will be required for this production so we invite all experienced and non-experienced folk to throw their hat into the ring.
As Alan Bennett also said, “My claim to literary fame is that I used to deliver meat to a woman who became T.S. Elliot’s mother-in-law”. So you never know if you can act if you don’t have a crack at it. |
